CONTINUING RESOLUTIONS

OF THE COUNCIL

OF SAINT PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH


Section 61 – Social Ministry Committee


R61.01. This section contains all continuing resolutions regarding the Social Ministry Committee of St. Paul Lutheran Church.


R61.02. The Social Ministry Committee is established by the Congregation Council as a permanent committee within the Witness Board and reports through the Witness Board to the Congregation Council.


R61.03. The purpose of the Social Ministry Committee is to provide awareness to the congregation for local and worldwide benevolence concerns and to assist the congregation in response to those concerns.  


R61.04. Specific duties and responsibilities of the Social Ministry Committee:

a. Shall be responsible for identifying needs and responding to social concerns locally and world wide by supporting (CROP) walks, (clothing/food) drives, and volunteer programs and by representing the congregation as we participate in organizations responding to social concerns such as, but not restricted to, Peoples Resource Center and Wheaton Outreach.

b. Shall maintain contact with and obtain materials from the national and synod offices of the ELCA regarding social ministry, advocacy, world hunger and mission activities.

c. Shall be responsible for allocating monies from the local benevolence budget of the congregation

d. Shall communicate to the congregation (via the website, print materials, verbal announcements and activities such as international dinners) ways to respond to identified needs and concerns.
